Documentary and Disability, 1st International Festival - Athens 2007

 
EMOTION PICTURES, the 1st International Documentary Festival on disability will take place in Athens in June 2007. The Festival is organized by the Secretariat General of Communication - Secretariat General of Information in collaboration with the Greek Film Centre and will take place at the same time as the 2nd International Conference "People with Disabilities and Mass Media". The Festival Director is the film director Maria Hatzimichali - Papaliou.

The relation between Documentary films and Disability is multidimensional and constantly evolving. It would not have been thus possible to omit from the rich cultural life of Athens an international documentary festival on disability. From June 2007 and every year from then on EMOTION PICTURES will be with you so that all together we can discover the social power of cinema.

The International Festival EMOTION PICTURES is the first of its kind in Greece. It belongs, however, to a powerful global artistic movement on the theme of disability.

The Festival's aim is to bring to prominence, using the documentary as the medium, the concern of artists from all over the world on disability issues and to encourage the development of a fruitful social dialogue in Greece with art – the common language of us all - as the starting-point.

Realizing the power of documentary films to raise awareness, to evoke concern and to awaken consciences, due to the immediacy and pluralism of its language, we invite to Athens artists and public in June 2007 to share with us opinions and experiences.
EMOTION PICTURES is a competitive event

The Festival Jury will give five awards:

   1. First Prize for Best Film
   2. Second Prize for Best Film
   3. Award for original and ingenuous directing
   4. Technical and artistic achievement Award
   5. Special Jury Award

The awards are accompanied by cash prices of €20,000 each. All the awards will be divided equally between the director and the producer of each film.

EMOTION PICTURES is non-profit and there is no entry fee.
The submission deadline is April 30th 2007

Confirmation of receipt of entries will be sent by email. The selection results will be announced in May.
