Aleksander Tansman 6. mezinárodní festival a soutěž hudebních osobností

Skladatelská soutěž, na které bude udělena Cena Alexandera Tansmana, jejímž cílem je podpora slibných hudebních osobností, proběhne v Lodži 6.-8. října a 17. listopadu v rámci Tansman 2006 festivalu. Grand Prix představuje částku 12 000 USD, celkově však porota, ve které zasedne Zygmunt Krauze, Krysztof Penderecki nebo Michael Nyman udělí ceny ve výši 26 000 USD. Termín k zaslání původních instrumentálních skladeb v délce 10-20 minut, které vznikly po roce 2000 je 11. září 2006.

1. GENERAL PROVISIONS
The 6th International Competition of Musical Personalities, organised by the Alexander Tansman Association for the Promotion of Culture, Academy of Music in Lodz and the City of Lodz Office under the patronage of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Poland and the Mayor of the City of Lodz, is a composer competition and will be held in Lodz on 6-8 October 2006 (the first session) and on 17 November 2006 (the final) in the framework of the TANSMAN 2006 Festival. The goal of the Competition is to select and promote the most outstanding musical personalities among composers, regardless of the styles they represent. The Competition will be held at the Academy of Music in Lodz and at the concert hall of the Lodz Philharmonic. The Competition is open to composers of all nationalities and has no age limits.

2. THE COMPOSITION
Participants may submit only original instrumental works which have not been awarded any first prizes at international competitions and which were written after or in the year 2000. The following types of compositions will be considered: - Compositions for instrumental ensemble ranging from at least 14 instruments to a symphonic orchestra: 3 flutes (piccolo included), 2 oboes (English horn included), 2 clarinets (bass clarinet included), 2 bassoons (contra bassoon included), 2 trumpets, 2 French horns, 2 trombones, 1 tuba, timpani, percussion instruments (max. 2 performers), strings (12, 10, 8, 6, 4). - Works for the aforementioned ensemble and instrument solo or voice solo. All languages are permitted in the texts of the pieces for orchestra and voice. An English translation must be provided. In case of a rare instrument solo, the composer will supply the instrument in question and suggest the soloist. Use of tape and live electronics is not allowed. On accepting these Regulations and submitting their entry forms and scores for the Competition, participants must prepare orchestral parts. The length of the composition may range from 10 to 20 minutes. Participants may submit any number of entries. An entry fee should be made for each score.

3. PRIZES:
Grand Prix: 12.000 USD
2nd Prize: 8.000 USD
3rd Prize: 4.000 USD
4th Prize: 2.000 USD
as well as honourable mentions and special prizes. The jury may decide on sharing the prizes.

4. STRUCTURE OF THE COMPETITION
During the first session (6-8 October 2006) the jury will select max. 8 scores which will later be publicly performed during the final, i.e. the concert at the Lodz Philharmonic on 17 November 2006 in the framework of the TANSMAN 2006 Festival. The composers will be present at the performance. Prizes and honourable mentions will be awarded following the concert. Composers whose works qualify for the final will have their travel expenses (return air fare to Lodz) and accommodation covered by the organiser.

5. JURY

The jury will act in compliance with the Regulations. Decisions of the jury are final and irrevocable. The jury may decide to divide the prizes differently.

6. SUBMISSIONS
A score should be submitted anonymously and marked with an alias. A sealed envelope marked with the same alias should accompany the score and include the following information:
- the composer's full name
- date and place of birth
- nationality
- postal address, phone/fax number, e-mail
- title and length of the composition
- two recent photographs
- CV in English
- Authorisation for the public performance of the work during the final, for its audio and video recording, potential broadcast and release on the CD of the Competition's final.
- receipt of the payment of the entry fee of 40 Euro.
Submitted documents will not be returned. Scores should be sent to the following address:

The deadline for submission of scores is 11 September 2006 (the postmark is decisive). The results of the first session will be announced after 8 October 2006 and the authors of the scores which qualified for the final will be informed. The participants whose scores qualified for the final are requested to immediately submit the orchestral parts needed for the performance of their work at the final concert on 17 November 2006.

7. ENTRY FEE
An entry fee per each score is 40 Euros and should be made payable to the account of Stowarzyszenie Promocji Kultury at Bank Pekao S.A. 87 1240 3015 1111 0000 3412 3980 SWIFT CODE: PKOPPLPW Bank charges are the responsibilities of the sender. A receipt of the payment must be enclosed with the submission. The entry fee is non-refundable.

8. FINAL PROVISIONS
Participants are subject to the Regulations of the Competition. Scores which do not meet these Regulations will not be considered. Contentious cases will be resolved on the basis of the Polish version of the Regulations of the Competition; this is the only binding version. The Director of the Competition will to decide on all matters which do not come within the scope of the jury. Such decisions are irrevocable and no legal action can be taken against them.
