Purpose of the competition
The Trieste Contemporanea Committee announces the sixth edition of the international design competition "Trieste Contemporanea" with the objective of promoting the most original expressions in design from the countries of central-eastern Europe. The initiative is organised with the patronage of the Central European Initiative (C.E.I.).
Theme and technique of the 2004 Competition: a functional tableware item in blown glass
The 2004 edition of the competition is dedicated to blown glass with the objective of stimulating the creative research of new aesthetic and formal solutions in the field of contemporary design within the specific tradition of the Muranese glassware industry. The candidates wishing to take part in the competition are asked to submit a project for any type of functional tableware item, i.e. for use in setting out and displaying food and drink for dining, to be executed using the blown glass technique and eventual cold-crafting finishing techniques. In order to emphasize the specific objectives of the competition, projects for objects with a purely decorative function or which require the glass to be crafted by means of moulds (with the exception of basic moulds), will not be accepted.
Criteria for admission to the competition
The competition is open to all designers born in, or currently citizens of, the countries adhering to C.E.I. (Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Ukraine) and of Estonia, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania. If applying as a group, the majority of the group members must be born in, or currently citizens of, the above stated countries.
