ANNOUNCES

Open international competition for support of artistic projects

TOWER KRONPRINZ: SECOND ADVENT

TOWER KRONPRINZ: SECOND ADVENT - is a new program of the Kaliningrad Branch of the National Centre for Contemporary Arts aimed at promoting among local population and professional artistic community the future residence of the NCCA in Kaliningrad - the cultural and historical monument of the middle XIX century, fortress tower-redan "KRONPRINZ".

Defensive barracks Kronprinz (built in 1843 - 1849) were a part of a second defensive ring in Königsberg. At different times elite units of Königsberg garrison, living quarters, Königsberg police, military treasury of Wehrmacht, warehouses and various communal services were located there. In April 1945, battles took place near to the walls of barracks, however it was not attacked and stayed surrounded by Soviet troops right until the general capitulation. After the War the tower was occupied by the penalty battalion that took part in the battle for Königsberg, then by a tank repair regiment, navigation school, later by a dormitory, organisations of fishing industry, warehouses and shops.
